It's almost here the new PSP slim is set for a September release. Here's a look at the two systems side by side.
In all the pictures the PSP Slim is on top while the current version PSP is on the bottom.

1. No IR Port (not this it was use much ... they're a few homebrew remote apps that used it but there was no official use of the IR port by Sony).

2. The speaker system is now located near the top of the PSP not as the bottom of the system like the current model.

3. The mic/earphone port is now moves up instead of being in the left groove. The mic port is also a video-out port interestingly enough. Sadly the old remotes wont work with the new design, and current psp cant use the video out cables.

4. The standard battery pack is 1200 MAh vs the original one of 1800 MAh, due to better power management the new battery should last as long if not more than the current PSP battery, also the old 1800 mAh battery will work with the redesign but a different battery cover is required.

5. While looking almost the same there are some other key differences between the two models like internal memory has been increased to 64mb the current PSP only has 32mb of memory. Button have an improved feel with a better response to them. The Umd slot loader has been removed now you just drop games into the system.

Will all this improve the image of the PSP, who know but one can say it's off to a great start and with a growing selection of hot titles like Jeanne D'Arc, Socom Tactical Strike, Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow, God of War Chains of Olypum the future for the PSP looks bright!
