The Watchmen movie is being released tomorrow in London, i was eagerly anticipating it's launch (so that i could jizz alll over the movie). Then, i got a bombshell in my mailbox (about an hour ago), I got emails from my friends saying that there were a number of plot lines and characters missing from the movie (and i told them to keep every info about the movie to themselves). There were two things that stood out for me -
1). opium-pipe missing: -
Her (i.e. Silk Spectre) fucking drug habit demonstrated a lot of her character's flighty personality as she jumped on and off the wagon. It was endearing to see a superhero run back to her comforting puffs (she felt more alive as a character, at least that was what i thought).
2). How Alan Moore was affected by 9/11: -
This event (R.I.P. the souls of the departed) greatly affected his writing. This was the fucking final chapter these hollywood cunts removed from the movie, goddamn it (and also, they could have used it to show how traumatised Laurie was even though it was a bit cheesey). You know i am over reacting here, it is Just a movie about an awesome comic. Christ, people are getting fucking killed in other parts of the world and i am here ranting about this trivial matter.
Well, that's my little...whatever you want to call it, i am still going to see it though.
KREEPYKRAWLLY out
P.S. If there are other people going nuts about how things were left out from the movie, just take something to reflect on this statement "there have been worse things that have happened in this world". WOW...me going "bat shit" about a movie has never happened before.
P.S.S: I just wanted to include a quote from one of the mails my idiotic friends sent.
"....a doomsday clock dripping with the blood of massacred New Yorkers is followed by in-your-face carnage. There are no words, just page after page of silent faces frozen in despair. Bodies are piled on top of bodies, hunched over street corners and splayed outside of windows. If you're familiar with the book, you know that the world, for New Yorkers, has just ended. The visually arresting images push forward the final issue that the entire novel hinges upon: Is it okay to kill millions to save billions? It's violent and necessary".
I've been a huge fan of the book from day dot, but I'm fine with the changes that were made. I went into it expecting to see a lot more omitted, but was pleasantly surprised when my glass suddenly became half full (no, that's not a jizz joke).
I know I don't speak for most Americans when I say that, 9/11 was a horrible, devastating event. But it's time to move on already. If, nearly a decade later, we're still too scared to confront our past and put it out on the table, then the terrorists/government have won. They wanted us to be afraid and it worked. That being said, I would have preferred the original ending, but I guess I see why it was changed. However, given the target audience of this film, I don't think the original ending would have offended anyone. If Rorhshach's origin doesn't offend, why not throw in a few bloody corpses?
I also understand your point about the missing drug addiction sub plot. Personally, I was more afraid they would leave out the Comedian's little paternity squabble in Vietnam. With the way Hollywood loves to don its kid gloves and put the smackdown on filmakers, I was sure this bit of character development/back story would be destined for the cutting room floor. Thankfully, I was wrong.
All in all, given that Mr. Snyder was able to cram 12 issues of story-packed greatness into just under 3 hours, I walked out of the theater with no regrets. I sure as hell couldn't have done any better. Plus, I've recently heard that a director's cut of the DVD has been confirmed, and it will be pushing the 3 1/2 hour mark. So, maybe that monkey on Spectre's back will see the light of day after all.

Yeah I know, the bloody scene in New York being replaced definitely stuck out in my mind, but didn't effect my review of the movie much.
