I finally saw 300 tonight, in IMAX no less. Though I think it would have been just as spectacular in regular format to be honest. Unfortunately, when the movie started this ginormous black stripe appeared down the edge of the screen that was exceptionally distracting. It looked as if the film wasn't alligned properly on the projector but the theather refused to fix it, blaming the fact that it was a new projector. After I complained to no avail, Jessica did so which led to us getting ticket vouchers for a free movie on another date. Thank you very much darling!
I gotta say though, being a game art/animation student really effects the way I see films. I don't want to go as far as saying it ruins them for me but it does prove to be a distraction. Instead of thinking "omgz this battle sequence is badass" my thoughts are something like, "Hmm, if there's all this blood spray, how come none of it lands on the Spartans? Why do the men's muscles appear in some scenes and not in others? That guy has damn puny arms for having an eight-pack!" LOL
The same thing happened in Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man's Chest. I have no idea what that movie was about. I was gawking at the genius 3D modeling that was Davy Jones. Now even when I watch older animated Disney films I'm looking for fluid animation. Even if an image is maybe on the screen for a second, I notice inconsistancies in the line work.
Anyone else like this? I feel like I need to see films twice nowadays, once for the technical aspect and then again for the actual plot/story.
