TMNT, way more than I expected. *spoilerish*

I went into this film expecting some B or C grade "fan boy" creation but instead was greeted with a great movie. As a kid I was a big Ninja Turtles nerd, I remember "playing" TMNT on the playground with the boys, I was always April (duh), and running around the playground pretending we were ninjas. I really haven't seen much of the series since then, but from what I have seen it's nothing to call home about. It's too bad that Saturday morning cartoons aren't what they used to be.

The movie however, was way beyond the series and a very pleasant surprise;

The animation was superb, and for the first time in a long while I actually watched a film. The animation was fluid, the texturing and lighting were spot on and some of those camera angles/movements were badass. The one scene that sticks in my head is towards the end when the team rushes into the army of ninjas, that camera shot, whoo boy sexy. As far as animation styles go, yes the characters were clearly stylized but it worked for this film. I mean hell it's a movie about goddamn ninja turtles we can get away with waists the size of my wrist and chins that could cut glass, hah.

The story line worked out really nicely as well, those stone warriors were fantastic, as well as the ninja team. I loved the fact that the writers went for a South American legend, it's not something we see used too often so that was refreshing.

Anyone else regonize some of the voice actors before the credits rolled? I kept leaning over to Jessica, holy crap Leonardo is Tidus from Final Fantasy X!! The ninja leader is Ziyi Zhang! Then Jessica pointed out that Sarah Michelle Gellar was April, gotta love it.

So if you haven't seen it, please do so. You will not be dissapointed.

Turtle power beetches. ;)

I was shocked. I came in expecting nothing, and it ended up being a pretty good movie. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it was worth the money to see it with some of my friends. I've never been a huge Turtles fan, but they didn't rush it, and I think they did a good job of telling the story. It's a good movie to watch once.
