Homebrew Running on PSP FW 3.50. Let the downgrading begin.

I was just looking at my usual sites today when I found this article. It seems that the hackers over at noobz have found a way to get homebrew running on Sony's official 3.50 firmware for the PSP. It seems that there is a hole in the Lumines UMD that allows for unassigned code to run a "hello world program". This hole is very similar to the one found in GTA Liberty City where a hole in the save data allowed the hack to be preformed. This is huge when it comes to homebrew on the PSP. This will allow hackers to make a downgrader using this exploit to get people to the golden firmware 1.5. If you don't know 1.5 had the ability to run unassigned code and was quickly patched by Sony. Once you are down to the golden firmware it is very easy, although risky to upgrade to a custom firmware. If you don't want to chance downgrading your PSP you will probably be able to run a HEN (Homebrew Enabler) which will allow you to run homebrew without flashing your PSP.

Update: Lumines sales on Amazon have climbed 6000% since the exploit was found. If you are looking for this game you better get it while you can still find it. Check out the details here. I am safe at the moment, because my brother has one and I called him to make sure that he doesn't get rid of it.

If you downgrade and leave it at 1.50 you will only have the options that 1.50 had. I would recommend downgrading and then going up to one of the custom firmwares to have all of the newer options like the internet and rss feeds. These work fine in the custom firmwares. Always remember though downgrading and flashing your PSP is risky and may lead to a bricked PSP. I have downgraded and flashed two PSP's without any problems. You just have to follow the directions exactly.
