I just got my launch Xbox 360 back from the Texas repair center after it red-ringed in the middle of August. Athough it pained me to be without my system for the last part of my summer break and missing the Bioshock and Stranglehold releases, it wasn't without its benefits...

1. Instead of just repairing my launch system, Microsoft sent me a brand new system which included the quieter DVD drive! I can't tell you how much nicer it is to not have to hear my 360 start up like a jet engine. This new unit was built literally the day after they got my broken one but sadly it didn't include HDMI. (That would have been really cool.) By the way, since I purchased the $60 2-year extended warranty from MS when I bought my system, they added that to the new 3-year standard warranty so my system is covered to January 2012. Nice!

2. I got a free new white faceplate I can cutomize! When you send in your unit to be repaired, they tell you to keep the faceplate. However, my new unit came with its own faceplate so now I have a spare I can paint or put stickers on if I wanted. (I probably won't though. Who has time?)

3. I used the time I didn't have my 360 to do other "productive" things during my free time, like practicing my new electric guitar (blues scale) and finishing the last 2 Harry Potter books (I highly recommend!)

4. Finally, I tried to use my 360-less time to play the final PS2 game I wanted to beat, which was Metal Gear Solid 3 BUT... the disc I rented had a scratch in it and I didn't get past the first cut scene on the rope bridge. Too bad, because I did really want to beat that one.

That's about it. It was a great feeling to boot up my system and FINALLY play Bioshock after about a month of being without it any games other than Guitar Hero and the faulty MGS3 on my PS2. I guess I'm glad my 360 failed when in did. I got it back BEFORE Halo 3 and the flood of other great holiday titles coming out AND I have a new system, which takes the anxiety out of wondering if this will be the day my 360 fails. If you have a launch system, your days are numbered, I'm sure of it. However, you'll only lose a month of gametime (Microsoft does send you a 1-month gold membership with your repaired 360 for the inconvienence) but you defintely have some benefits. :-)

Same here, yesterday I received my new 360 (took about 2.5 weeks from pickup to delivery). It got replaced by a brand new one, not even 3 weeks old! And because I had to send in for the third time they sent me a free copy of Perfect Dark Zero, and a free wireless headset (which works fine BTW). Added to this the support was very helpfull, and apologized for the inconvenience several time. I don't knwo how other people get such bad support experiences, but I have had to deal with them a few times now and the support is always top notch (maybe because I live in Europe???).

My 360 red ringed. It only took 3 weeks to get back, which wasn't too bad, and they sent me a brand new one too. Bitchen.

I agree with the time to play other games. I pulled the Wii off my shelf and beat Zelda and Super Paper Mario. My 2nd XBOX is currently being fixed and I am debating selling it and buying an Elite or Halo 3 edition console.
