March 7, 2007 - A very sad day in the world of comic book super heroes that shall never be forgotten (until retconned).
Today, I awoke with the doomsday sirens going off around me. Not sure of what chaos ensued, I turned to the news to see if I should take immediate shelter. What I saw shocked me to my very core. The death of an icon. The death of Captain America. What are we, as a country, going to do now?
Marvel's decision to kill of one of their iconic heroes comes a shock to many, but many are wondering why. Why kill the one man who has saved us time and time again against such threats as the Nazis, Onslaught, and the Easter Bunny? Ok... one of those might not have happened. DC Comics have tried this before with some of their well known characters, such as Superman and Batman, and the effects in their universe were devastating (until 6 months later when Supes came back from the dead and Bat's spine fixed itself).
To me, Marvel is ice skating uphill with the way they decided to kill Captain America (thanks Fox News for telling me how it happened so I don't have to read it now. Very Classy.) and for deciding to kill him off altogether. That's right, Marvel. I'm pointing my finger at you (granted you can't see that as I'm behind a monitor right now.) and putting you on the list.
And to you, Steve Rogers, O Captain! My Captain. You will not be forgotten.
RIP
